I hand-make new scales for razors from a variety of materials such as the following tropical hardwoods:
Being dense hardwoods the most suitable finishes are danish oil and Renaiisance Wax - the oilier hardwoods tend to not need any finish at all, and some actually repel modern varnishes and the like.
I also have a stock of very good imitation ivory and faux tortoiseshell - these are casein-based rather than acrylic, which makes them very suitable for razors as they are flexible and not prone to fracturing or chipping, as well as black and ruby red linen micarta.
I also have moulds of some interesting old patterned scales, from which I cast polyurethane replicas.
Prices begin at around £35, depending on what is required. Please email me me for further information.
A small selection of scales I have made can be seen in this slideshow feature (by moving the cursor over the screen, the slideshow can be speeded-up, slowed down, paused, etc).
