Alum is a natural antiseptic and astringent that stops bleeding if you nick yourself whilst shaving. You can either press the block to the cut for a few seconds, or use it like an aftershave by wetting it and rubbing it over the face. It closes the pores of your skin and leaves it tight.
Did you know that it can be used as a natural deodorant too? It has antibacterial properties that make it ideal as a deodorant, and is sold in small crystals for this purpose, but a block works out cheaper and has only to be moistened and rubbed under the arms, then rinsed off.
It can also be used to calm-down the sting from insect bites.
