Hand Made Modular Magnetic Paddle Strops

Solid Aluminium Magnetic Paddle Strop c/w 2 Stropping Panels of Choice

These are high quality magnetic paddle strops made from a base of solid aluminium billet, 6mm in thickness.  The overall length is about 16.5" (varies slightly - each item is hand-made and is a one-off) including the handle, by about 3" wide.  They are of very rugged construction and have a heavy, solid, sturdy feel and are satisfyingly hefty to hold.  The handles are fitted with a variety of tropical hardwoods riveted through the aluminium with nickel silver rod and stainless washers.  These paddles are fitted with heavy duty magnetic panels on both sides - the panels measure 300mm x 70mm and take any of the stropping panels currently listed in the shop such as hard wool felt, horse hide, latigo, juchten, natural vegetable tanned cowhide and others.

This paddle (unlike the cheaper hardwood panels which do not come with stropping panels) comes with two stropping panels of your choice - just make a note of which ones you require in the delivery instructions area at checkout or email me.  The Panels currently available are:

• 6mm thick Hard Wool Felt

Apart from the first two, these are arranged in approximate order of draw, ie the black or brown juchten leather generally speaking has the most draw, whilst horsehide is very fast and slick with the least draw.

Please note that this is a hand-made product, made in England, and may have traces of handcrafting such as small tooling marks and other artefacts that you would normally associate with any hand-crafted item.

Aluminium Magnetic Paddle Strop Pros:

• Easier for the novice to use - no need to worry about keeping it taut!
• More compact than a loom or a hanging strop, and extremely rugged and resilient, so good for travelling with.
• Ideal for pastes because it does not sag - sagging contributes to edge rounding.
• User can select a variety of different materials.
• If a panel is damaged it is easily and cheaply replaced.
• Moisture will not warp it!

Harwood Base Magnetic Paddle Strops, c/without stropping panels

These are good quality paddle strops made from a base of a variety of solid hardwoods, only lightly sanded to retain most of the woods natural charm.  The overall length is about 18" (varies slightly - each item is hand-made and is a one-off) including the handle, by about 3" wide by about 1/4" thick.  The paddle has a good solid base.  It has been treated with three coats of Renaissance Wax to make it moisture-proof and to add a subtle sheen that brings out and enhances the grain.  The handle is cut to the style of a favourite Victorian paddle strop I own.

These paddles are fitted with heavy duty magnetic panels on both sides - the panels measure 300mm x 70mm.

Please note that the hardwood paddles are sold individually and do not come with stropping panels - these must be purchased separately
