13/16 Filarmonica 14 Doble Temple Vintage Straight Razor, Spain

This is a very good vintage razor - a No14 Doble Temple ("double tempered") Filarmonica made by Jose Monserrat Pou.  The company was established in 1915 in Mataro, Barcelona.  It is in overall very good condition with some very light marks and a high polish.  The Doble Temple stamp on the tang is a little faint but still very legible, whereas the 'Made in Spain' stamp on the other side is extremely faint and not really readable.  The gold-washed design on the front of the blade has been completely polished away.  There are no splits, cracks, nibbles or dings to the edge of the blade!

It is a carbon steel blade, full hollow ground with a square point.  It is a very heavy, large blade: the cutting part of the blade measures about 3.25 inches long, the overall blade length is about 6.0 inches and the width is just about 13/16th inches (measured from top of spine to cutting edge).  The edge has been highly polished and is very sharp indeed - it passes the so-called Hanging Hair Test with ease (with my hair, YMMV) and is shave-ready.

The scales are original, made from the usual pearlescent acrylic and in very good condition indeed.  They have been professionally pinned at the wedge and pivot with brass pins hand-peened over brass washers. The blade has been cleaned with a multi-spectrum hospital grade disinfectant and the tang was treated with Tuf-Glide rust inhibitor before reassembly.

The pinning is nice and firm - the blade does not flop about! 

The blade sits nice and centrally between the scales without fouling them.

This razor comes with the stiff plastic Filarmonica pouch shown in the photo - it has some signs of age and is in fairly good condition.
