This is an entry-level razor, made by Giesen and Forsthoff in Solingen-Wald, Germany. The razor came from a barber-supply company that had ceased trading. The blade has some light marks but is in overall very good condition with the original factory satin finish. There are no splits, cracks, nibbles or dings to the edge of the blade! Please note that this is not one of the vintage models of the same name, but a comparatively recent model made by the same company. In my opinion the vintage Timors were far superior to the new ones: the quality control and the steel used was better. Like a lot of the more modern blades in this price bracket the grind on these models is a bit inconsistent giving a larger bevel than usual and a bevel that changes in width. This is a cosmetic issue only and will not affect the razors performance. Note that if you had bought this Timor from a place that does not pre-sharpen razors than it would have been impossible to shave with and you would either have to hone it yourself or send it away for honing at additional expense. This razor has a nice "blued" (more black than blue, actually) finish on the tang and top of the spine. It is a carbon steel blade with a full hollow grind and a round point. The cutting part of the blade measures about 2.75 inches long, the overall blade length is about 5.5 inches and the width is a full 5/8th inches. The edge has been highly polished and is very sharp (although the edge is not as fine as most vintage razors) - it passes the so-called Hanging Hair Test and is shave-ready. The blade sits nice and centrally between the scales without fouling them. This razor comes with it's mint-condition box. Honing Progression:
DMT extra-fine, Shapton 2000 GS, Naniwa 5000 SS, Naniwa 8000 SS, Shapton 16000 SS - then stropped on one of my buffalo leather and genuine linen hand-made strops. Packaged weight will be around 175gms
