6/8 Vintage Filarmonica Medallon Taurino Straight Razor, Spain

This is a very good vintage razor - a No14 Medallon Taurino Filarmonica made by Jose Monserrat Pou.  It is in good condition with some very light marks and some small very faint polished-out pits and the design on the front of the blade has been polished away.  There are no splits, cracks, nibbles or dings to the edge of the blade!

It is a carbon steel blade about half-hollow ground with a square point.  It is a very heavy, large blade: the cutting part of the blade measures just over 3.0 inches long, the overall blade length is about 6.0 inches and the width is just about 6/8th inches from top of spine to cutting edge, tapering off slightly towards the heel.  The edge has been highly polished and is very sharp indeed - it passes the so-called Hanging Hair Test (with my hair) and is shave-ready.

I am not sure if the scales are original (because I have not seen them on a Filarmonica before, but the Filarmonicas made for Castagnon had different scales too) but these are the scales the razor came in and the pinning looked original.  They are made from a green translucent synthetic with sparse bits of glitter flake and a Spanish lady flamenco dancer is imprinted on them with some traces of the blue-coloured dress and red roses.  They have been professionally re-pinned at the pivot and while apart all faces were thoroughly cleaned.

The pinning is firm - the blade does not flop about! 

The blade sits nice and centrally between the scales without fouling them.

This razor comes with the original box, which has some signs of age but is in nevertheless good condition.
