Alum at a bargain price!  Although these bars are new and unused they mostly have slight faults, hence the discount price - you could be paying £6 - £10 for the same product in a fancy wrapper!

Each bar weighs approx 75gms - a good weight.  Some of the bars have discolouration and dark areas - this is a totally natural product, mined from naturally occurring alum, so these marks are inherent and do not degrade the alum in any way.  Some bars have crumbly edges, some have a bit of flaking, some have damaged wrappers, some are just fine!  A bar may have none of these faults, one of them, some of them or all of them.

The alum has an astringent effect and is used to stop minor cuts from bleeding - it constricts the capillaries and has been used for this purpose for centuries.  It is also a natural antiseptic.  In addition to its traditional use for shaving, it can also be used on insect bites and the bar can be moistened and rubbed under the arms: it acts as an odourless natural anti-perspirant.  Some people crumble the bars and put them in a pump action spray bottle with water for just this purpose.
