9/16 Vintage Filarmonica Corte Cabello Straight Razor, Spain

This is a nice vintage razor - a Corte Cabello Filarmonica made by Jose Monserrat Pou.  It is in very good condition - it was in its original wrapper and still had the factory grease on the blade when I got it.  Note the rubber finger grip - this model was produced for salons where the barber may have had wet hands, and the rubber gives a good grip.  Over the years some chemical in the rubber grip has lightly stained the cut-out section of the scales, but this is just a cosmetic defect and of no major consequence.  There are no splits, cracks, nibbles or dings to the edge of the blade!

It is a stainless-steel blade (INOX) somewhere between a quarter and half hollow grind with a round point.  The cutting part of the blade measures just under 3.0 inches long, the overall blade length is about 5.5 inches and the width is a touch over 9/16th inches from top of spine to cutting edge.  The edge has been highly polished and is very sharp indeed - it passes the so-called Hanging Hair Test (with my hair) and is shave-ready.

The scales are original, turquoise blue synthetic material with imprinted metallic red writing, and are in as-new condition - the only slight defect is the staining mentioned previously.  The pinning is all original.  Note the scallopped-out inside edges that accomodate the rubber grip - this also helps to keep the blade tightly between the scales so that it does not come open easily - I do not know if this was the original intention, but I can see it being an advantage to a travelling barber.

The pinning is firm - the blade does not flop about! 

The blade sits nice and centrally between the scales without fouling them.

This razor comes with its original hard plastic slleve (that is cracked, flattened, and shows signs of age) and it polythene inner sleeve.
