Vintage Boxed Genuine Escher Thuringian Hone

This is a genuine Escher branded vintage thuringian water hone for the final polishing of straight razors.  The Escher trademark (E. & Co.) is plainly visible on the label.  These stones - particularly the boxed variety like this one - are very hard to come by and have as much collectable value as user value. 

The stone is firmly cemented in its original box.  The box has some signs of age and wear but is in overall very good condition with working catch and hinge and no traces of woodworm or anything else nasty.  The stone itself has recently been lapped.  It has a small piece missing from the corner, but this is of little consequence and does not affect honing.  The stones dimensions are 5 inches long (125mm) by 1 inch wide (25mm) by 0.75 inches thick (19mm).

I have honed my razor using this hone and can confirm that it gives a very good edge indeed - possibly better (ie, smoother) than a mid-range charnley forest hone.  No slurry was used.  Indeed, if you read the instructions a slurry is not mentioned - it says that simply moistening the stone and honing will produce a "fine slime" that aids the cutting action.
