Vintage Celebrated Thuringian Water Hone

This is a genuine vintage Thuringian water hone for putting the final polish on straight razors.  It is a fine stone and leaves a mirror-like bevel to the naked eye.  I have finished a number of razors on it and the finish is well over 10,000 grit and somewhere close to 15,000 grit  - in my opinion (possibly a little less fine than the boxed example of a lighter colour I have for sale - there isn't much in it, though).  It gives a finer finish than the new MST thuringians and the resulting shave is very smooth.  The stone was once in a broken and tatty box like other celebrated thuringians, but the box was too far gone to save.  It was lapped on all four faces recently - on 600 grit.   There are no cracks or chips and all corners have been chamfered.  The stone measures 123mm x 26mm by approx 14mm thick (roughly 5" x 1" x 1/2th").

Note that the stone comes without a slurry stone.  The slurry it produces is a light grey.  Slurry can be produced quite easily with a diamond plate.  For the pictures I rubbed it with a charnley rubbing stone, and this took quite some time to raise a slurry.  The finest finish is obtained with just water, or even dry.  Honing a razor on it with water does not readily raise a slurry.

This would make a fine touch-up stone, finishing stone and because of its narrowness and usability of all four long sides it would be particularly useful for razors with problem blades.
