Vintage Celebrated Thuringian Water Hone

This is a genuine vintage Thuringian water hone for putting the final polish on straight razors.  It is a fine stone and leaves a mirror-like bevel to the naked eye.  I have finished a number of razors on it and the finish is well over 12,000 grit and somewhere close to 15,000 grit, maybe higher  - in my opinion.  It gives a finer finish than the new MST thuringians and the resulting shave is very smooth.  The stone comes glued in it's original purpose made box, with the instructions inside the lid.  It is a very light colour - not the darker colour usually associated with thuringians.  It was lapped fairly recently to 600 grit, but a fair number of razors have been honed on it since.  The stone measures 125mm x 25mm by approx 15mm thick (roughly 5" x 1" x 5/8th").  It is a few mm thinner at one end.

The pictures show the hone in dry condition.  The box has signs of wear and tear, including some worm holes and the top of the latch is missing, but it easily opens and closes.

Note that the stone comes without a slurry stone.  The slurry it produces is a very light grey, almost white colour.  Slurry can be produced quite easily with a diamond plate.  The finest finish is obtained with just water, or even dry.  Honing a razor on it with water does not readily raise a slurry, just a thin 'slime.'
