Vintage ROMA No.5 Double Leather Hanging Razor Strop

This is a very good vintage english-made strop by Roma, model number 5.  It is made from good quality shell horse-hide about 3mm thick.  It has been fully refurbished.  The horse-hide is very supple and shows no signs of drying or wrinkiling or creasing.  It has some discolouration and the patina has been removed during refurbishment, but will soon build-up again. The draw may be altered with yellow strop conditioner or neatsfoot oil applied sparingly.  The finishing side is in extremely good condition - just some very light cosmetic marks and no nicks or razor catches!  It has 14.5 inches of clear stropping length on it.

The other side is leather that has been specially treated with a red abrasive compound, proprietary to Roma.  It has "sharpen" embossed into the leather on this side.  It has some very light marks and just one nick, which has had the edges sanded smooth.  The nick is near the handle end, and there is still a good 9 - 10 inches of stropping length above it, although with care it can be stropped over.

The handle of the strop was missing when I got it, so I have fitted it with a new leather handle, cut to the original Roma pattern and stuffed and stitched just like the Roma handles.  The metal hardware shows some light tarnish - see photos.  The top fitting is a scissor-style hook with a swivel base, which lets you simply flip the strop over from one side to the other without having to unhook it.

The strop is a good length - from the tip of the hanging gear to the bottom of the handle it measures approx. 25 inches long with a good 14.55 inches of stropping length and it is 2.25" inches wide.

This is a heavy strop - the packaged weight will be around 850gms.
